Compared with 10 days ago, 13/May, the death rate of the world fell from 1.06% to 0.77%; of Mexico fell from 2.72% to 1.93; while of the US increased from 0.09% to 1.06.
This does not mean the desease is causing less people to lose their lives; it is primarily because the total confirmed cases have increased too much which made the death rate "look better".
During the last 2 weeks, we actually can happily see that the growth rate of the influenza A H1N1 has been falling and falling. However, the rate, especially the world rate, is still high enough to cause more people get infected each day.
Anyway, some states in the US does have shown us a really effective result how they have successfully controlled the desease. Maybe more governments/institutions/people should learn some thing from what these states have done to get a better idea to deal with their own situation.
